I had an old woman call me on Wednesday to ask about yoplait lite yogurt. She wanted to know why we don't carry the kind that have aspartame anymore cause she's diabetic and can only have aspartame. (...I was under the impression diabetics simply had to watch their sugar intake and any fake sweeteners would work, that it wasn't an aspartame only thing, but anyway...) I told her we carry all the same yogurt we used to. She said ever since our remodel we haven't had it. I told her none of our yoplait lite got discontinued. She said that it doesn't have aspartame anymore. I said that if yoplait took that ingredient out then it's yoplait who did it and not something the store can control. She said other stores carry it and we don't. I said we have all the same flavors we used to. She said it's not a flavor issue that it's the aspartame. I said that if yoplait took it out the store can't do anything about that if she wanted to buy one at a different store and bring it in I can see if I can order it for her.
So 99.9% of the time when this occurs no one ever follows up. She did. She actually did. Thursday she came in with an empty cup of Strawberry Shortcake. I have carried that flavor almost two years now. She was at customer service cause she was old and didn't want to walk to the back so I'd brought my scan gun with me. When she didn't believe we carried that one I scanned it and showed her that it had an order history and a sales history and a balance on hand. Still not quite believing me I took her to the back and showed her it on the shelf. I picked up one of mine and flipped it over and showed her the ingredients and pointed at the word "aspartame". The issue? Her cup advertised aspartame on the front (you know, "Includes Aspartame!" or something) and mine didn't. She never bothered to read the ingredients. You know the only reason they have these "advertisements" on the cups is so people can't sue them for getting sick cause they "didn't know" it had such and such ingredient. Like we failed to read the Kroger Active yogurt properly and Victor got sick after eating it and we looked and it said in three places that it had whatever kind of mold it is that it had that's basically penicillin.
